Summary: FDM is seeking a Cloud Security Consultant for a remote role focused on a strategic cloud security review initiative within the public sector. The consultant will assess existing cloud security tools, identify gaps, and inform procurement decisions while collaborating with technical teams and stakeholders. This position requires significant experience in cloud security engineering or business analysis, particularly within the Microsoft security ecosystem. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of existing cloud security tooling and configurations
  • Assess which Microsoft security capabilities (including Defender suite) are enabled, optimised, or underutilised
  • Analyse current cloud-native security controls and identify gaps or opportunities for improvement
  • Support tooling and procurement reviews to inform strategic investment decisions
  • Produce clear documentation and recommendations based on findings
  • Engage with technical teams and stakeholders to gather requirements and validate insights
  • Contribute to shaping future security initiatives, with potential transition into project delivery BA responsibilities

Key Skills:

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in either Cloud Security Engineering or Business Analysis within a security domain
  • Proven experience reviewing and assessing security tooling within enterprise environments
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft security ecosystem, particularly: Microsoft Defender (E3 / E5 licensing capabilities)
  • Experience conducting gap analysis, tooling assessments, or security posture reviews
  • Ability to translate technical findings into clear business recommendations
  • Experience working with stakeholders across security, engineering, and procurement functions
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Cloud Security Consultant to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a remote role with occasional travel to London or Northern Hampshire. Our client is seeking an experienced Cloud Security Engineer/Business Analyst to support a strategic cloud security review initiative, focusing on understanding existing tooling, identifying gaps, and shaping future investment decisions. You will play a key role in conducting a foundational assessment of the organisation’s current cloud security posture, including evaluating which tools are in place, what has and hasn’t been enabled, and how effectively Microsoft-native security capabilities are being utilised. This work will directly inform procurement decisions and broader security strategy. Working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, you will engage with technical teams, security stakeholders, and procurement functions to deliver meaningful insights.

About You

Minimum of 8 years' experience in either Cloud Security Engineering or Business Analysis within a security domain

Proven experience reviewing and assessing security tooling within enterprise environments

Solid understanding of Microsoft security ecosystem, particularly: Microsoft Defender (E3 / E5 licensing capabilities)

Experience conducting gap analysis, tooling assessments, or security posture reviews

Ability to translate technical findings into clear business recommendations

Desirable

Experience working specifically as a Security Business Analyst on transformation projects

Knowledge of wider Microsoft cloud security tooling (e.g., M365 Defender, Defender for Cloud)

Exposure to enterprise procurement processes or vendor/tool selection exercises

Experience working in complex, enterprise-scale cloud environments
