Summary: The Public Cloud Architect role focuses on leading the design and deployment of secure and scalable cloud environments for enterprise clients using Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and best networking practices. The architect will also ensure compliance and governance while delivering technical workshops and artifacts. This is a contract position based in the UK, with a remote working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement GCP landing zones and cloud foundations in alignment with Google’s architecture blueprints and customer requirements.
  • Define GCP resource hierarchy, folder structure, and multi-project setup with best practices.
  • Build and manage environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Deployment Manager, or Pulumi.
  • Lead the configuration of VPC networking, shared VPCs, peering, DNS, load balancers, and Cloud Interconnect/VPN for hybrid and multi-cloud connectivity.
  • Implement secure IAM, organizational policies, and compliance controls as part of cloud governance.
  • Collaborate with customer architects, security, and platform teams to align infrastructure patterns with business and technical goals.
  • Deliver technical workshops, artifacts, and enablement for internal and customer teams.

Key Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure or enterprise IT architecture roles.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, with a strong focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with core GCP services (e.g., Compute Engine, GKE, VPC, Cloud Storage, Cloud IAM, Cloud DNS, Cloud Load Balancing).
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, especially Terraform.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash, Go).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls).
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., GCP Operations Suite, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • Deep knowledge of GCP cloud foundations, landing zones, and enterprise networking in cloud environments.
  • Proficiency with Terraform and other IaC tools for repeatable and scalable infrastructure delivery.
  • Hands-on experience with GCP networking, firewall rules, Cloud DNS, Cloud NAT, VPC Service Controls.

About the Role
