Summary: As a Cloud Architect specializing in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), you will design, implement, and optimize cloud infrastructure solutions for a government department. This role requires active SC clearance and offers the opportunity to influence cloud strategy while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver high-level cloud architecture solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring alignment with business requirements, security standards, and best practices.
- Lead the creation of technical architectures for large-scale cloud-based solutions, from infrastructure design to application deployment.
- Support the migration of on-premises applications and services to GCP, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance post-migration.
- Implement cost-optimisation strategies, ensuring cloud resources are efficiently provisioned and within budget.
- Ensure all cloud solutions are designed and implemented in compliance with government security policies, industry standards, and data privacy regulations.
- Work closely with development teams, infrastructure engineers, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions with existing systems and services.
- Develop automated infrastructure-as-code solutions using tools like Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager, or Ansible. Promote best practices in cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, and DevOps.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, implementation guides, and operational procedures.
- Engage with senior stakeholders and project managers to provide architectural guidance and support in decision-making.
- Stay current with new GCP features and cloud technologies, evaluating their relevance and potential benefits to the department.
Key Skills:
- Significant experience as a Cloud Architect with a focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect certification (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager, or Ansible.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles, including encryption, IAM, network security, and secure design patterns.
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices for cloud-based development and deployment.
- Familiarity with containerisation technologies (eg, Kubernetes, Docker), and serverless architectures.
- Proven experience in cloud migration projects and performance optimisation.
- Experience working within a regulated, public-sector environment is desirable, with knowledge of government security policies, data privacy regulations, and compliance standards.

Cloud Architect (GCP) required to work with a government department. This is a 12 month contract, paying up to £900 per day, inside IR35, remote working (offices in London and Glasgow)
Active SC clearance is a minimum requirement prior to commencing this assignment. DV clearance is desirable.
