Summary: The Clinical Documentation Principal Trainer (Epic) is responsible for developing and delivering training programs related to clinical documentation workflows within the Epic EHR system. This remote position requires expertise in clinical documentation improvement and the ability to create training materials that meet regulatory standards. The role involves collaboration with various teams to ensure effective training and continuous improvement of documentation practices. Candidates should possess Epic certification and relevant experience in training and EHR implementations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain training curriculum for clinical documentation workflows.
- Develop training materials including manuals, eLearning modules, quick reference guides, and simulations.
- Deliver instructor-led, virtual, and at-the-elbow training to providers and clinical staff.
- Ensure training content aligns with system updates, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in clinical documentation workflows within the EHR.
- Collaborate with application analysts and informatics teams to understand system design and changes.
- Translate technical build into end-user training content.
- Support go-live readiness activities and command center operations.
- Identify documentation improvement opportunities through feedback, metrics, and workflow analysis.
- Partner with Clinical Informatics to support optimization initiatives and standardization efforts.
- Update training materials and strategies based on system enhancements and user needs.
- Promote best practices for accurate, efficient, and compliant documentation.
- Participate in governance structures and workgroups related to clinical documentation.
- Provide input on system design decisions impacting documentation workflows.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through surveys, proficiency assessments, and performance metrics.
- Provide ongoing support and coaching to end users.
- Maintain training environment and related documentation.
Key Skills:

Education and Experience »
- Epic-certified as Principal Trainer in Clinical Documentation:5 years
- Ability to work without close supervision, taking ownership of work activities, & ensuring training sessions & materials meet Epic''s standards.
- Experience with clinical documentation improvement (CDI) practices: 3 years.
Highly desired:
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
- Experience supporting large-scale EHR implementations or upgrades.
- Certified in developing the Epic training environments.: 3 years.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Job Responsibilities:
Training Development & Delivery (40%):
- Design, build, and maintain training curriculum for clinical documentation workflows (e.g., provider documentation, templates, SmartTools).
- Develop training materials including manuals, eLearning modules, quick reference guides, and simulations.
- Deliver instructor-led, virtual, and at-the-elbow training to providers and clinical staff.
- Ensure training content aligns with system updates, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
EHR & Workflow Expertise (25%):
- Serve as a subject matter expert in clinical documentation workflows within the EHR (Epic preferred).
- Collaborate with application analysts and informatics teams to understand system design and changes.
- Translate technical build into end-user training content.
- Support go-live readiness activities and command center operations.
Optimization & Continuous Improvement (20%):
- Identify documentation improvement opportunities through feedback, metrics, and workflow analysis.
- Partner with Clinical Informatics to support optimization initiatives and standardization efforts.
- Update training materials and strategies based on system enhancements and user needs.
- Promote best practices for accurate, efficient, and compliant documentation.
Governance & Collaboration (10%):
- Participate in governance structures and workgroups related to clinical documentation.
