About the Role: CIMA is looking for volunteers from the Accounting Profession and lay members to serve on its Appeals Panel and Review Panel. These two governance committees uphold public confidence in the integrity of CIMA's examinations.

The Review Panel: Consider complaints alleging misconduct or an exam regulations breach where there is no direct evidence of how the breach occurred. Consider cases of End Point Assessment malpractice concerning the Apprenticeship programme. Consider complex cases of up to 10 days work per annum.

The Appeals Panel Consider complaints alleging misconduct or an exam regulations breach where there is direct evidence of how the breach occurred. Consider appeals against decisions made by the Review Panel. Oversee the examinations' special consideration and special accommodations policies, guidance and procedures. Consider cases equivalent to 10 days work per annum.

The time commitment is likely to be varied due to the ad-hoc nature of the cases. We are looking for individuals with flexible schedules to consider cases at short notice. Appointment does not guarantee any minimum number of days' involvement in CIMA work. Please note that CIMA and the Association are offering these roles on a freelance contract basis only, not as direct employees. You will be entirely remote.

You Will: Plan for meetings and read papers in advance. Assimilate facts and arguments from case papers. Analyse complex facts, evidence and issues. Evaluate evidence logically and impartially. Demonstrate commitment to protecting the public interest. Reach an independent and objective decision at the conclusion of a hearing and articulate it with confidence. Take into account the views of others. Work well in a team.

Chairs or Vice Chairs will: Conduct Panel hearings observing relevant procedures. Lead in camera discussions and draft or oversee the drafting of the Panel's decisions. Manage hearings to ensure that cases are dealt with fairly. Lead team to reach a shared decision, then articulate it at a hearing. Liaise constructively with staff for example about administrative/procedural matters.

You Have: You must work in a professional capacity (or have retired less than three years ago). To be eligible you must be independent of serving on other CIMA Council or the Association's Committees. Good character and integrity. Formal committee experience. Recent experience working in a profession or business.
