Summary: The Childcare Advocate role involves acting on behalf of the County Council in childcare and related court proceedings, primarily within the Child Protection team. The position requires both court-based work and case preparation, allowing for remote working most of the time. The successful candidate will provide expert legal advice and training to ensure compliance with legal standards. This contract is expected to last between 3 to 6 months, with potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as an advocate in cases prepared by team lawyers within the childcare team and manage all matters related to the conduct of the hearing.
  • Provide expert legal advice on evidence quality, case strength, and other legal issues relevant to proceedings.
  • Conduct work in accordance with practice management standards set by the Law Society (Lexcel) and departmental performance standards.
  • Provide training to Legal Services members and clients to ensure compliance with legal standards.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified legal professional (Solicitor, Barrister or equivalent).
  • Experience in public childcare law.
  • Effective communication skills with members, senior officers, and clients.
  • Experienced advocate with excellent research skills.
