Summary: The Building Inspector role involves providing expert support to the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) in ensuring compliance with building regulations across England. The position requires substantial experience in building control regulation and the ability to communicate technical issues effectively. The inspector will work within Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) to assess higher-risk building projects and provide specialist advice. This is a remote position with a contract length of 12 months, subject to extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team of professional specialists with responsibility for work related to building control and building regulations.
- Assist Regulatory Leads and caseworkers in interpreting complex submissions in relation to compliance with building regulation, statutory processes and best practice in regulation.
- Participate in MDT meetings, case validation discussion, and relevant regulatory panels, offering advice to support robust evidence-based decision making.
- Help identify and address procedural or technical failings in applications and advise on appropriate regulatory responses.
Key Skills:
- Substantial experience in building control regulation, including assessing compliance with building regulations and overseeing complex or higher risk building projects.
- Ability to interpret technical and regulatory information and apply it pragmatically in support of proportionate enforcement or regulatory decision making.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise and accessible technical advice and guidance.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary environments and contributing technical assurance in decision making contexts whilst maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is transforming building safety regulation across England, ensuring that residents are safe and feel safe in their homes. We are seeking a Building Control Professional either class Class 3(G), 2 (C) or 2 (F) (to work under the direction of a 3(H), to join BSR and help shape the future of building practice in England by providing direct support to our Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) to ensure regulatory decisions are technically robust and proportionate. This post requires detailed knowledge of technical matters, candidates will be good communicators, able to present technical issues clearly and succinctly. Roles will mainly support New build Higher Risk Building plans assessment for BSRs Building Control "innovation" team. You will be providing specialist advice to MDTs reviewing (and peer reviewing) building control applications, and support regulatory and policy teams interpretation of the Building Regulations 2010.
