Summary: The role of Backend Engineer involves developing AI-enabled backend services for a clinical knowledge platform, focusing on APIs, knowledge graphs, and AI orchestration on AWS. This hands-on contract position requires expertise in building and maintaining backend APIs and integrating various AI services. The engineer will also be responsible for implementing hybrid search and delivering secure workflows using AWS technologies. The position is remote and classified as outside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain backend APIs (REST/GraphQL) for AI-driven content and feedback loops
• Develop and query knowledge graphs using Amazon Neptune (SPARQL/Gremlin)
• Integrate AI services (Amazon Bedrock, RAG, entity extraction)
• Implement hybrid search using OpenSearch (vector + structured search)
• Deliver secure, serverless workflows using AWS Lambda and related services

Key Skills:

• Strong backend experience in Python or Node.js/TypeScript
• Hands-on AWS serverless (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS/SNS)
• Experience with graph databases and search technologies
