Summary: The Azure Database Architect role involves designing and implementing cloud-native database solutions on Azure for a leading consultancy client. The position is a 3-month contract, working remotely and classified as outside IR35. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Azure database technologies and a strong understanding of data architecture and security measures. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure optimal database performance and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement cloud-native database solutions on Azure (SQL, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, etc.)
- Model and optimise scalable, high-performing data architectures
- Integrate databases into broader Azure ecosystems (App Services, AKS, etc.)
- Monitor and tune database performance and queries
- Implement security, encryption, and compliance measures (eg, GDPR, HIPAA)
- Design backup, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions
- Lead database migration and modernisation projects to Azure
- Automate deployments using ARM, Bicep, or Terraform
- Collaborate with developers, DevOps, and stakeholders
- Document architecture, configurations, and best practices
Key Skills:
- Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance, Cosmos DB, Azure Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL
- Understanding of Azure IaaS, PaaS, networking, storage, and identity services
- Data encryption, role-based access control (RBAC), network security, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, HIPAA)
- T-SQL, execution plans, indexing strategies
- PowerShell, T-SQL, Python (optional)

We have an exciting opportunity to work with a sector-leading consultancy client on a major project. They are looking for an Azure Database Architect to join on a 3 month contract working outside IR35.
