Summary: The Assistant Payroll Manager will oversee day-to-day payroll operations and support the Head of Payroll in a remote capacity for an 18-month fixed-term contract. This role requires strong leadership skills and a commitment to accuracy in managing payroll processes for the organization. The successful candidate will also coach a team of Payroll and Benefits Administrators while ensuring compliance with payroll regulations. Key Responsibilities:
- Support and deputise for the Head of Payroll
- Manage and coach a team of Payroll and Benefits Administrators
- Oversee and verify the input of all payroll-related data
- Perform pre- and post-pay run checks in line with audit requirements
- Reconcile BACS, PAYE, pensions, and childcare vouchers
- Ensure compliance with National Minimum and Living Wage requirements
- Submit BACS payments and respond to General Managers' queries
- Handle external requests for payroll information
- Assist in salary reviews, year-end processing, and payroll system testing
- Produce and submit P11Ds and handle associated queries
- Lead annual appraisals and performance development of the team
Key Skills:
- Strong background in payroll with demonstrable experience in a leadership or assistant management role
- Experience using Workday is essential
- Proven ability to manage a busy payroll department and support staff development
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Confident using payroll systems and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
- Able to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision
