AS400 / IBM i COBOL Developer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced AS400 / IBM i Developer with strong COBOL experience to support and enhance existing legacy applications.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting applications on the IBM i (AS400) platform, with strong knowledge of COBOL and DB2.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, maintain, and troubleshoot applications on the AS400 / IBM i platform.
• Design, code, test, debug, and implement programs using COBOL.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Perform application enhancements, production support, bug fixes, and performance improvements.
• Work with DB2 for i databases, including SQL queries, stored procedures, and data analysis.
• Develop and maintain batch jobs, reports, interfaces, and file-processing programs.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Work with business analysts, functional teams, and other technical teams to understand requirements.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and documentation.
• Support system integration and data interfaces with internal and external applications.
• Maintain and enhance existing legacy applications while following development and change-management standards.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience with AS400 / IBM i development
• Strong hands-on experience with COBOL / COBOL/400
• Strong knowledge of DB2 for i / DB2
• Experience with RPG / RPGLE is a plus
• Experience with CL / CLLE
• Strong knowledge of AS400/IBM i development and production support
• Experience with SQL
• Knowledge of IBM i objects, libraries, jobs, job queues, and batch processing
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Experience working in a production support environment
• Good communication and ability to work independently in a remote environment
