Summary: The Applied Physics Specialist role involves leveraging advanced physics expertise to evaluate and enhance AI's understanding of physical principles. Candidates will design complex physics problems, author precise solutions, and audit AI reasoning for accuracy. This position is fully remote and offers flexible hours, requiring a PhD in a relevant field but no prior AI experience. The work is intellectually demanding and impactful, contributing to the development of AI models that adhere to fundamental physics laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design PhD-Level Problems — Craft advanced, open-ended physics problems that require multi-step reasoning, mathematical derivation, and deep domain knowledge across topics like quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and statistical mechanics
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step "golden responses" where every physical constant, unit conversion, and logical step is airtight and precisely correct
- Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated solutions and simulations for physical consistency, identifying where models hallucinate results or violate fundamental laws like conservation of energy and momentum
- Refine Model Reasoning — Provide structured, expert feedback that helps AI systems develop physics-informed reasoning — including proper handling of boundary conditions, symmetry arguments, and dimensional analysis
Key Skills:
- Holds a PhD (completed or near-final stage) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
- Deep mastery across the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
- Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured English
- Uncompromising attention to detail — units, notation, and logical flow matter to you at a fundamental level
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently on an asynchronous schedule
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required
- Experience with data annotation, evaluation systems, or scientific dataset quality review (nice to have)
- Proficiency with computational tools such as MATLAB, COMSOL, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or similar (nice to have)
- Background in research-level benchmarking or academic problem design (nice to have)
- Familiarity with AI systems or language models as an end user (nice to have)

Applied Physics Specialist (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your years of physics expertise could directly shape how AI understands the physical world — from quantum mechanics to thermodynamics — for millions of people who rely on it every day? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to put cutting-edge Large Language Models to the test. Your job is to probe AI reasoning at its deepest level, expose where it breaks the laws of physics, and help build models that actually respect first principles. This is high-impact, intellectually demanding work — and it's fully remote and flexible. No AI background required. Just rigorous physics knowledge and a sharp analytical mind.
