Summary: The role of Applied Physics — AI Data Trainer involves leveraging expertise in physics to evaluate and enhance AI's understanding of physical concepts. Candidates will design complex physics problems, author precise solutions, and audit AI reasoning for consistency with fundamental laws. This fully remote position offers flexible hours and does not require prior AI experience, focusing instead on a strong foundation in physics. The role is ideal for PhD-level physicists looking to contribute to high-impact AI projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design advanced physics problems that require multi-step logical reasoning and rigorous mathematical derivation.
- Author precise, step-by-step "golden responses" for physics problems.
- Audit AI-generated simulations and proofs for physical consistency.
- Provide structured feedback to improve AI's handling of physics-related concepts.
- Work independently and asynchronously on a flexible schedule.
Key Skills:
- PhD completed or in final stages in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field.
- Deep mastery of Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics.
- Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena in clear English.
- Attention to detail in scientific notation and logical flow.
- Self-motivated and rigorous in independent work.

Applied Physics — AI Data Trainer
About The Role
What if your deep expertise in quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and thermodynamics could directly shape how AI understands the physical world? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge Large Language Models — exposing the gaps in their physical reasoning and helping ensure they respect the fundamental laws of the universe. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI background needed — just mastery of physics and a sharp, rigorous mind.
Organization: Alignerr
Type: Hourly Contract
Location: Remote
Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design advanced physics problems — craft PhD qualifying exam-level challenges that demand multi-step logical reasoning and rigorous mathematical derivation across domains like quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics
- Author gold-standard solutions — write precise, step-by-step "golden responses" where every unit, constant, and logical step is airtight
- Audit AI reasoning — evaluate AI-generated simulations and proofs for physical consistency, identifying where models "hallucinate" physics that violates first principles
- Refine model behaviour — provide structured, expert feedback that improves how AI handles boundary conditions, conservation laws, and physics-informed reasoning
- Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule
Who You Are
- PhD completed or in final stages in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
- Deep mastery across the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
- Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured English
- Uncompromising attention to detail — units, scientific notation, and logical flow matter to you
- Self-motivated and rigorous when working independently
- No prior AI experience required
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance workflows
- Proficiency with MATLAB, COMSOL, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or similar scientific computing tools
- Background spanning multiple subfields of physics or adjacent engineering disciplines
