Summary: The role seeks PhD-level Applied Physicists to evaluate and enhance AI's understanding of physics by designing complex problems and auditing AI-generated outputs. Candidates will work independently on a flexible, fully remote contract basis, focusing on ensuring AI reasoning aligns with fundamental physical laws. No prior AI experience is necessary, but a deep mastery of physics is essential. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact AI projects in a novel field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Advanced Physics Problems — Craft complex, open-ended problems equivalent to PhD qualifying exam level, requiring multi-step reasoning and mathematical derivation across core physics domains
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step "golden responses" with flawless physical constants, unit conversions, and logical flow
  • Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated simulations, proofs, and derivations for physical consistency, identifying where models "hallucinate" physics that violates first principles
  • Refine Model Thinking — Provide structured, expert feedback to improve AI performance on physics-informed reasoning, including boundary conditions, conservation laws, and symmetry constraints
  • Work Independently — Complete task-based assignments asynchronously, fully on your own schedule

Key Skills:

  • PhD completed or in final stages in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
  • Deep mastery of core physics pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured English
  • Uncompromising attention to detail — you catch unit errors, sign mistakes, and flawed assumptions instinctively
  • Self-motivated and reliable when working independently
  • No prior AI or machine learning experience required
  • Experience with data annotation, dataset quality evaluation, or scientific benchmarking (nice to have)
  • Proficiency with computational tools such as Python (NumPy/SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL (nice to have)
  • Background in research publication, technical writing, or academic instruction (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with AI tools or language model evaluation as an end user (nice to have)

Applied Physics (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your deep expertise in physics could directly shape how AI reasons about the physical world? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge Large Language Models — probing their understanding of quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and more — and help ensure that AI reasoning never violates the fundamental laws of the universe. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No prior AI experience required — just mastery of physics and a rigorous analytical mind.
