Detailed Description From Employer:

Applied Physics — AI Data Trainer

About The Role

What if your years of physics training could directly shape how AI understands the physical world — from quantum mechanics to thermodynamics to the fundamental laws that govern everything around us? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge AI models, expose the gaps in their physical reasoning, and help build systems that truly respect the laws of the universe. This is high-impact, intellectually demanding work — and it's fully remote, with flexible hours you control.

Organization: Alignerr

Type: Hourly Contract

Location: Remote

Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Advanced Physics Problems — Craft rigorous, open-ended problems at the level of PhD qualifying exams, requiring multi-step mathematical derivation and deep conceptual reasoning across quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, classical mechanics, and thermodynamics
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Produce precise, step-by-step "golden responses" with flawless physical constants, unit conversions, and logical flow — the benchmark that AI must meet
  • Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated simulations, derivations, and proofs for physical consistency; identify where models hallucinate physics or violate first principles
  • Refine Model Behaviour — Deliver structured, expert feedback that improves AI reasoning around boundary conditions, conservation laws, and physics-informed constraints

Who You Are

  • PhD completed or in final stages in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
  • Deep mastery of the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
  • Exceptional analytical writing skills — you can explain a complex derivation clearly, precisely, and without ambiguity
  • Uncompromising attention to detail when it comes to units, notation, and logical structure
  • Self-directed and comfortable working independently and asynchronously
  • No prior AI or machine learning experience required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, COMSOL, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or similar computational tools
  • Background in research benchmarking or academic problem design

Why Join Us

  • Work on some of the most technically demanding AI projects in existence alongside world-leading research labs
  • Fully remote and async — work when and where you do your best thinking
  • Freelance autonomy: choose your hours, set your pace, and work on intellectually stimulating problems
  • Direct, meaningful impact on how AI models reason about the physical world
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
