Summary: The role of Android OS Engineer involves developing operating systems for next-generation AR/VR devices, focusing on Android internals and AOSP integrations. Key Responsibilities:
- Integrate new Android/AOSP releases into custom AR/VR system frameworks
- Build, debug and optimise OS-level services, APIs and internal infrastructure
- Work with engineering teams across the UK and Europe on system design and stability
- Contribute to performance profiling, low-level debugging and system tooling
- Support the evolution of a complex, large-scale Android-based platform
Key Skills:
- 6+ years' software engineering experience
- Strong background in Android internals, AOSP, frameworks or OS-level development
- Proficiency in C++ and Java (Kotlin is useful but not essential)
- Experience building or maintaining system components rather than apps
- Exposure to embedded, device-level or resource-constrained environments is beneficial
