Summary: The AI Engineer - Azure Foundry role involves designing, developing, and maintaining AI systems to enhance operational and regulatory functions within a leading regulatory authority in the aviation sector. This position requires SC Clearance and a minimum of 5 years of continuous UK residence. The role is remote with occasional travel to London and is offered on a 6-month initial contract basis. Candidates will be responsible for modernising services and ensuring compliance with responsible AI standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain AI models and agentic systems that improve regulatory services and internal operations.
  • Develop and tune machine learning models to ensure accuracy, fairness, and reliability in production use.
  • Orchestrate intelligent automation workflows using low code/no code platforms and agentic AI frameworks.
  • Monitor and maintain deployed models and agents, addressing performance drift and ensuring responsible use.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure business resilience and fix on fail capability of our portfolio of AI products.
  • Ensure compliance with standards for security, data governance, and responsible AI.
  • Support proofs of concept and innovation pilots, evaluating new approaches and technologies.
  • Share knowledge across the organisation, acting as a subject matter expert and champion for AI adoption.
  • Help to develop internal standards and processes.
  • Work with stakeholders to help realise their business requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across business units to translate needs into practical AI-enabled solutions.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience developing, tuning, and deploying AI/ML models using frameworks.
  • Experience with Azure AI Foundry.
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI tools and orchestration frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with low code/no code platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI principles, including explainability, fairness, and ethical deployment.
  • Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, and knowledge graphs.
  • Ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams, with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Awareness of data governance, secure handling of sensitive data, and regulatory considerations.
  • Knowledge of MLOps/DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines for ML models.
  • Understanding of reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems, or advanced optimization methods.
  • Previous experience working in regulated industries is advantageous.

This role is instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining AI systems and intelligent automation to enhance operational and regulatory functions. The AI Engineer will play a key role in modernising services, adopting emerging technologies responsibly, and upholding a reputation for excellence in aviation regulation.
