Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide design, development, testing, and support for client websites and web applications.

Overview: The Accessibility Web Engineer will provide design, development, testing, and support for client websites and web applications. The consultant will serve as a subject matter expert in digital accessibility, ensuring compliance with federal and state accessibility laws and WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards. This role involves close collaboration with UX Designers, Business Analysts, Developers, Solution Architects, Testers, Project Managers, and Accessibility Program SMEs to ensure clients' digital products are fully accessible.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks: The scope of this project encompasses the following tasks:

The consultant will undertake duties and responsibilities as a senior digital accessibility compliance web engineer and provide design, development, test, and support of Cclient website and web applications. The engagement involves working under the guidance of the Accessibility Compliance Team unit supervisor to provide accessible web solutions, to include accessible responsive and mobile design, and development. The consultant will develop working specifications for Client website and web applications adhering to the federal and state accessibility laws and guidelines. Additional duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: ability to organize complex and/or detailed technical procedures; define technical requirements; define accessibility test procedures; work within project timelines; and participate in implementation and communication activities.

Analysis and Design

  • Maintain WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards.
  • Review current policies, processes, workflows and design systems and map out updates.
  • Apply the principles of Universal Design.
  • Propose one or more design options as appropriate to each situation, including a level-of-effort estimate and target delivery date.
  • Document the solution selected by client.
  • Determine impact of reported defects or enhancements to existing applications.

Implementation, Testing, and Support

  • Perform accessibility testing utilizing a variety of assistive technologies to identify defects.
  • Recommend technical implementation of accessibility solutions.
  • Develop approved application changes within the existing technical environments, using the approved promotion path and QA/testing methodology.
  • Perform internal unit/QA testing.
  • Update and enhance system documentation to keep it synchronized with system and environment changes.

Accessibility Test Procedures

  • Develop accessibility test methodology to include automated tools, assistive technology, and manual testing.
  • Ensure all WCAG 2.2 Success Criteria are addressed in testing procedures.
  • Provide technical expertise.
  • Develop defect severity and priority methodology.

Knowledge Transfer

  • Provide knowledge transfer of accessibility requirements, best practices, experience, and insights across products and services to the Accessibility Compliance Team.
  • Educate Clients' state team on accessible front-end development.
  • Knowledge transfer to occur via collaborative documentation, annotations, code commenting, cross training, and job shadowing.
  • Knowledge transfer to take place during regular accessibility working sessions, team meetings, and specific knowledge transfer meetings in addition to review of documentation.
  • Documentation to include best practices and lessons learned during the project.

2. Ten (10) years of digital accessibility experience performing automated and manual testing to include screen readers, text to speech, development tools, and color contrast validation tools.

3. Ten (10) years of web application experience and manually inspecting code to validate and ensure accessible design practices.
