Summary: The Accessibility Tester will utilize both manual and automated techniques to ensure that documents meet accessibility criteria. This role involves remediating various document types, including PDFs and web pages, to comply with established standards. The Specialist will also support accessibility accommodation requests and track progress on remediation activities. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Using Adobe Acrobat, CommonLook, and similar tools to remediate PDF documents in order to ensure compliance with accessibility standards; ensure that complex documents meet or exceed all applicable standards.
- Other document remediation assignments could include web pages, Microsoft Office documents.
- Using assistive technologies, such as screen readers (such as JAWS, Narrator, or NVDA), to manually ensure that document experiences are equitable and functional.
- Support and fulfill accessibility accommodation requests from external stakeholders.
- Track and report on progress and activities related to document remediation.
- Monitor and review updated or new accessibility and document standards as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Skills:
- Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook) and Adobe as well as the ability to quickly learn and apply other software skills.
- Software: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office.
- Experience authoring and remediating documents for accessibility which includes experience auditing documents for accessibility compliance.
- 4-6 years of experience using Adobe Acrobat/Pro and Microsoft Office.
- Software: CommonLook PDF or other document remediation tools; Screen Readers (JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, etc.) and other assistive technology used for manual accessibility testing.
- Strong communication, organization, time management, prioritization, and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify and analyze issues and develop appropriate solutions and plans of action.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards such as Section 508, WCAG, PDF/UA.
