Summary: Our client is seeking a Regulatory Consultant I for a 6-month assignment in Houston, TX, focusing on regulatory permitting and compliance assurance for onshore oil and gas operations in Texas and New Mexico. The role involves supporting drilling and operations to ensure alignment with state and federal regulations while fostering relationships with regulatory agencies. Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete regulatory activities associated with drilling and operations of wells in Texas and New Mexico.
  • File drilling, completion, workover, and plugging permits.
  • File well testing, annual testing, and annual regulatory reports.
  • Resolve operation and production-related compliance issues, including inactive well compliance and violations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in industry workgroups to support development and improvement of internal procedures, policies, and compliance practices.
  • Work closely with asset and operations personnel to provide guidance on state and federal permitting and operating requirements.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate applicable agency-issued directives and regulatory updates to the assets.

Key Skills:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years in upstream oil and gas required
  • Regulatory analyst experience required
  • Knowledge of state (New Mexico and Texas) and federal oil and gas regulations
  • Strong skills in Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Good organization and time management skills

Job Description:

Regulatory Consultant I is a technical opportunity supporting onshore oil and gas operations across Texas and New Mexico, with a focus on regulatory permitting, compliance assurance, and operational support in a complex federal and state regulatory environment.

Role Context

This position supports an international oil and gas exploration and production company with a major North American chemical manufacturing subsidiary. The work sits within upstream oil and gas operations and requires close coordination across technical and operational disciplines.
