Summary: The Rail Systems Integration Lead – Electrical role at Midland Metro Ltd involves overseeing the integration of electrical substations, signalling, and telecommunications for new infrastructure projects. This position requires a strong focus on ensuring compliance and operational readiness while collaborating with various teams. The successful candidate will not manage staff but will take charge of their discipline to ensure successful project delivery. This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 9 months based in Wednesbury, West Midlands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shadowing the existing MML Team Leader for initial induction.
  • Acting as the lead discipline representative for new assets.
  • Carrying out static infrastructure checks and testing.
  • Verifying asset installation against technical specifications.
  • Coordinating training for operational and maintenance staff.
  • Creating or updating maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Contributing to Health & Safety File data handover.
  • Supporting policy and procedure development for new risks.
  • Engaging in inspections and review activities for asset readiness.
  • Supporting the transition of new infrastructure into MML ownership.
  • Ensuring correct registration and configuration of new assets in the management system.

Key Skills:

  • Demonstrable experience in Electrical Substations.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance principles and safety regulations.
  • Practical experience interpreting technical drawings.
  • Experience in coordinating operational readiness activities.
  • Authorised Person (AP) qualification.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualifications.
  • APM PMQ or Prince 2 qualifications.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety File requirements under CDM regulations.

We’re now recruiting for a Rail Systems Integration Lead to drive the next phase of our expansion into Dudley – and this is your chance to own a vital part of that journey!

You won’t be managing people; you’ll be taking charge of your discipline – Electrical Substations, Signalling and Telecommunications and guiding it through to successful delivery.

You will be responsible for supporting the safe, compliant and efficient transition of new infrastructure into Business As Usual operations.

Along with this, as one of our Rail Systems Integration Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Shadowing the existing MML Team Leader in your respective discipline for the initial 3-month induction phase to gain network-specific knowledge and expectations.
  • Acting as the lead discipline representative for all new assets introduced as part of the network extension.
  • Carrying out static infrastructure checks and testing to confirm asset suitability and readiness for operational use and driver training.
  • Verifying that asset installation is complete and in accordance with the as-built drawings and technical specifications.
  • Coordinating and support the familiarisation and training of operational and maintenance staff in relation to new equipment and environments.
  • Creating or update maintenance schedules, procedures, and instructions aligned with manufacturer guidance and operational needs.
  • Contributing to the collation, review, and handover of Health & Safety File data in collaboration with admin and Agility support teams.
  • Supporting the development or amendment of policies and procedures required to manage new risks or configurations.
  • Engaging in joint walkthroughs, snagging inspections, and review activities to sign off assets as ready for service.
  • Supporting the Infrastructure Manager, Asset Handover Coordinator, and Technical Officer in achieving a coordinated and timely transition of new infrastructure into MML ownership.
  • Ensuring all new assets are correctly registered and configured in the Agility asset management system with appropriate hierarchy, tasking, and scheduling.

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • Demonstrable experience in Electrical Substations.
  • A strong understanding of maintenance principles, asset inspection, and safety regulations within a light rail or rail infrastructure context.
  • Practical experience of interpreting technical drawings and documentation.
  • Experience in coordinating operational readiness activities, including static testing and staff familiarisation.
  • Authorised Person (AP) qualification.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualifications.
  • APM PMQ or Prince 2 qualifications.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems (e.g., Agility or equivalent CMMS).
  • Understanding of Health and Safety File requirements under CDM regulations.

It would be desirable if you also possess:

  • Experience working on new infrastructure handovers, extensions, or commissioning.
  • Knowledge of West Midlands Metro infrastructure and operational practices.
