Summary: The Quantity Surveyor role in Birmingham involves providing commercial support at the project level, focusing on contract administration and financial management within the power sector. The position requires expertise in NEC3 and NEC4 contract frameworks and prior estimating experience. The role includes responsibilities such as cost management, risk identification, and collaboration with project teams to ensure financial objectives are met. This is a 6-month rolling contract with potential for extension up to 2 years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct monthly internal reporting, including cost value reconciliation (CVR) and commercial management processes.
  • Prepare and submit client reports in line with contractual obligations and periodic reporting requirements.
  • Optimize cash flow through structured activity schedules, monthly valuation submissions, and subcontractor account management.
  • Ensure timely recovery of outstanding payments and resolve related queries efficiently.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering initiatives, and change events.
  • Administer contract variations, ensuring compliance with early warnings, compensation event (CE) notifications, quotations, and implementation.
  • Develop cost estimates and manage subcontractor inquiries for tender proposals and compensation events.
  • Support project delivery teams in adhering to financial and risk management protocols.
  • Record and monitor project-level commercial KPIs, minimizing potential financial impacts.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual payment schedules.
  • Oversee subcontract agreements from initiation through final account settlement.
  • Collaborate with project teams to align project objectives with broader business goals.
  • Drive profitability while maintaining strong client and subcontractor relationships, considering strategic risk-reward approaches.
  • Take ownership of commercial performance, demonstrating strong contractual and financial acumen.
  • Assist in managing, preparing, and submitting tender inquiries.
  • Conduct cost assessments with a strong understanding of tendering processes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders to support project objectives.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Work independently or as part of a wider project team as required.
  • Identify skill gaps and support talent development through training and recruitment.
  • Provide mentorship and commercial guidance to junior team members.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor or in a similar commercial role.
  • BSc, HND, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a commercially related discipline.
  • Proven experience in estimating.
  • Prior experience within the Power Transmission & Distribution sector (preferred).
  • Knowledge of construction methods, technology, standard measurement practices, and NEC3/NEC4 contracts (Options A & C).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse project programs effectively.
