Summary: The Quality Manager will oversee quality assurance and control activities for a critical defence programme at BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness, ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards. This role involves leading the Project Quality Management System and managing quality engineers and inspectors. The position is a 12-month contract and classified as outside IR35. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of the Project Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ensure compliance with client specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards (ISO, BS EN, ASME).
  • Develop and manage Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and quality procedures.
  • Oversee all QA/QC activities including welding, fabrication, and NDT processes.
  • Manage and mentor quality engineers and inspectors.
  • Act as the primary interface for client quality representatives and audits.
  • Lead investigations into non-conformances (NCRs) and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in a Quality Manager or Senior Quality role in a regulated industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and associated quality frameworks.
  • Experience within fabrication, welding, and mechanical installation environments.
  • Experience leading audits, NCR management, and root cause analysis.
  • Experience on BAE Systems Barrow site or similar defence programmes.
  • Submarine, naval, or nuclear sector experience.
  • Certified Lead Auditor (ISO 9001 or equivalent).
  • CQI Chartership.
  • Experience within tier-one contractor or EPC environments.

We are seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead quality assurance and control activities on a critical defence programme at the BAE Systems site in Barrow-in-Furness, on behalf of Bureau Veritas. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all engineering, manufacturing, and construction activities comply with stringent regulatory, client, and industry quality standards within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. The role will be working on a 12 Month Contract - Outside of IR35
