Summary: The Quality Intern will support the Lead Quality Engineer at Buhler London by ensuring the quality of Optical Sorters through part non-conformance management, testing, and cross-functional collaboration. The role involves evaluating parts from various suppliers and participating in quality audits and investigations. The intern will also create quality documentation and reports while gaining practical experience in a technical environment. This position is primarily on-site with minimal travel required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily Supplier Quality performance management including part non-conformance management and validation of root cause analysis.
  • Creating and maintaining monthly supplier quality performance dashboards and reports.
  • Participating and running monthly quality meetings with suppliers.
  • Supporting supplier visits and quality audits.
  • Completing technical customer complaint 8D investigations.
  • Investigating potential internal or supplier part or process failures.
  • Testing and inspection of part non-conformances.
  • Improvement activities or projects possibly applying Six Sigma / DMAIC.
  • Creating and updating quality documentation and instructions.

Key Skills:

  • Current undergraduates or recent postgraduates in a scientific, engineering, or technical discipline.
  • High standard of secondary / A-Level education.
  • Basic spreadsheeting skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Confident communicator and proactive self-starter.
  • Intermediate level experience with MS Excel.
  • Experience handling statistical data (desirable).

Detailed Description From Employer:

You will be supporting the Lead Quality Engineer ensuring the overall product quality of the Optical Sorters manufactured at Buhler London. This is by identifying and addressing part non-conformance, problems, design evaluation and implementing improvements. You will be testing and evaluating a range of parts and products from different manufacturing suppliers, such as fabricated parts, electronics and PCB components, machined parts etc. You will also be communicating and collaborating across cross-functional teams (engineering, design, production, customer, sales) to address quality issues and ensure compliance. This role is primarily based on site at our London office with some UK travel possibly required (<5%) This is where you'll excel Daily Supplier Quality performance management – part non-conformance management, containment activity, validation of root cause analysis and 8D response and monitoring of supplier performance. Creating and maintaining monthly supplier quality performance dashboards and reports, as well as participating and running monthly quality meetings with suppliers. Supporting with supplier visits and quality audits Supporting in the completion of technical customer complaint 8D Investigations. Investigate potential internal or supplier part or process failures which have resulted in a failure at customer site. This will include becoming familiar with the 8D Investigation Process and Root Cause Analysis tools, with support and training from Lead Quality Engineer. Supporting with individual tasks to manage overall site quality which could include: Testing and inspection of part non-conformances. Improvement activities or project(s) with possible application of Six Sigma / DMAIC. Creating and updating of quality documentation and instructions such as Quality Alerts, Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures. These are the skills you'll need Required Qualifications This role is aimed at current undergraduates or recent postgraduates to increase their industrial experience.
