Summary: The Quality Engineer - Automation role is a contract position based in the Manchester/Leeds area, requiring expertise in test automation and middleware/microservices testing. The candidate will design and maintain automation frameworks while supporting both manual and automated testing throughout the project lifecycle. Mentoring junior team members and collaborating within agile teams are key aspects of this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain automation frameworks.
- Create test artefacts and support manual and automated testing.
- Mentor junior team members and work in collaborative, agile teams.
- Write automation scripts against user stories and maintain test traceability.
- Manage defects and documentation across the full testing lifecycle.
- Define and update automation frameworks.
- Conduct testing for Middleware, Microservices, and API Platforms.
- Utilize DevOps principles and work with tools like Docker and Jenkins.
- Perform exploratory testing and manage stakeholder communication.
- Handle data migration, database testing, and batch processes/scheduling.
Key Skills:
- Experience as a Quality Engineer with knowledge of test lifecycle and processes.
- Banking or Finance experience preferred.
- Advanced skills in Java, Python (including Pytest), Cucumber, Gradle, Maven, BDD/TDD, GitHub, Jenkins, IntelliJ, Jira, Confluence.
- Coding ability for automation framework creation and maintenance.
- Strong background in manual and automated testing, functional and non-functional coverage.
- Knowledge of DevOps principles and experience with Docker and Cloud.
- Experience in data migration and database testing.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience mentoring junior team members.
- Desirable: Experience in GCP/cloud transformation projects and advanced database testing.

Quality Engineer - Automation - CONTRACT - INSIDE IR35 - Hybrid - Manchester/Leeds (2 days per week) We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer with a strong background in test automation, middleware/microservices testing, and full lifecycle quality practices. The role requires designing and maintaining automation frameworks, creating test artefacts, and supporting both manual and automated testing throughout the lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have experience mentoring junior team members and working in collaborative, agile teams.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience as a Quality Engineer with knowledge of test lifecycle, test processes, and test tools
- Banking or Finance experience highly preferred.
- Ability to create test artefacts aligned to a Test Strategy, write automation scripts against user stories, and maintain test traceability
- Advanced skills in Java, Python (including Pytest), Cucumber, Gradle, Maven, BDD/TDD, GitHub, Jenkins, IntelliJ, Jira, Confluence
- Coding ability to support automation framework creation and maintenance
- Experience in defining/updating automation frameworks
- Testing experience with Middleware, Microservices, API Platforms
- Strong background in both manual and automated testing, functional and non-functional coverage
- Defect management and documentation across the full testing lifecycle
- Knowledge of DevOps principles and working with Docker, Cloud, Jenkins, Splunk
- Experience with exploratory testing
- Stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience in data migration, database testing, feed files, and understanding batch processes/scheduling
