Key Responsibilities:
- Routine testing, sampling, and analysis of raw materials, in-process materials, finished product, and effluent.
- Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment, such as HPLC’s, GC’s, pH meters, and spectrophotometers.
- Carry out basic microbiology testing in support of yeast performance where required.
- Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced, and that all instrumentation calibration is kept up to date.
- Carry out routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies to produce reliable and precise data.
- Record and interpret results to present to the operational teams.
- Utilise a LIMS system to store results.
- Engage with operators and technical support to troubleshoot process problems.
- Present recorded information in a suitable format, including the preparation of graphs for trend analysis purposes.
- Prepare samples for off-site analysis as required.
- Adhere to and follow site safety procedures and safety checks.
- Ensure all work complies with C.O.S.H.H. regulations.
- Carry out regular Legionella compliance monitoring activities.
- Identify areas for quality control improvement.
- Evaluate data and draft reports, noting any relevant deviations from existing standards.
- Communicate quality or compliance concerns with urgency.
Key Skills:
- Minimum – HNC/HND in Chemistry or other related science discipline.
- 2 years practical laboratory experience.
- Use of chromatographic techniques (Gas Chromatography, HPLC & Ion chromatography).
- An understanding of distilling or brewing processes.
- Ability to work flexibly within a lab team.
- Interest in learning about the distilling process and lab analysis.
- Enthusiastic and proactive approach to tasks.
