Summary: The role of Quality Assurance Technician is a fixed-term position within the Quality & Technical department of a global FMCG manufacturer in Harrogate. The technician will focus on maintaining food safety and quality systems, conducting microbiological testing, and supporting the Quality Manager. This position offers the potential to evolve into a permanent role after the initial three-month contract. Candidates should have prior QA or microbiology experience in food manufacturing and be UK residents with full working rights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Quality Manager in maintaining Food Safety & Quality Systems.
- Conduct site hygiene surveys and microbiological testing as per schedule.
- Perform regular Quality Assurance line-audits to ensure product quality.
- Maintain a clean working environment and ensure proper stock rotation of lab consumables.
- Carry out complaint investigations and document findings within Safefood 360.
- Collaborate with the Operations department to identify and address potential risks.
- Collect technical data as required and communicate sample analysis results effectively.
- Participate in internal and external audits for Micro Lab Accreditation and ISO 14001.
- Engage in project-based work as required within the department.
Key Skills:
- Prior experience in Quality Assurance and/or Microbiology lab-based roles.
- Degree in natural or biological sciences, or relevant qualifications in HACCP or Quality Assurance.
- Exceptional communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to promote a safety-first environment and adhere to health & safety requirements.
- Comfortable working on a shift rota and covering holidays/absence within the team.
- IT literate, able to use Microsoft and in-house packages.
- Team player with the ability to prioritise for the benefit of the wider business.
- Driver with own transport is an advantage due to off-site visits.

We’re searching for a Fixed Term (3 month) Quality Assurance (QA) Technician to join the Quality & Technical department of a global FMCG manufacturer in Harrogate. Demonstrable prior QA or microbiology experience within a food manufacturing environment is desired.

The Role:
As a Quality Assurance Technician, you will report into the Quality Manager and be responsible for conducting quality assurance tasks across the site, with a focus on activities within the micro lab facility. You will be responsible for maintaining Food Safety & Quality Systems in accordance to business need.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Quality Manager in maintaining Food Safety & Quality Systems.
- Conduct site hygiene surveys of plant and personnel and microbiological testing in line with schedule and documented procedures as Sampling and plating of relevant plant-based samples and finished products.
- Perform regular Quality Assurance line-audits to ensure product quality and packaging standards.
- Maintain a clean working environment and ensure proper stock rotation of lab consumables (FIFO).
- Carry out complaint investigations and document findings within Safefood 360.
- Collaborate closely with the Operations department, taking a proactive stance in identifying potential risks and jointly addressing issues as they emerge
- Dipping boreholes and collect technical data as required.
- Read, document, and communicate sample analysis results effectively and confidentially.
- Further QA responsibilities including equipment calibrations, stock taking & ordering, and participating in internal and external audits for Micro Lab Accreditation (LabCred), and ISO 14001.
- Participate in project-based work as required within the department
Key Skills and Experience:
- Prior experience in Quality Assurance and/or Microbiology lab-based roles is desired.
- Degree in natural or biological sciences, or relevant qualifications in HACCP or Quality Assurance.
