Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure complex defense projects meet regulatory and contractual standards.
- Drive a "Right First Time" culture to prevent defects and reduce Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
- Interface with a multi-disciplined team of contractors and team members.
- Partner with customers to understand quality assurance and control requirements.
- Act as a key focal point for Quality Management and personnel allocated to the project.
- Review and approve manufacturers' quality arrangements according to project requirements.
- Review QC Inspection reports and address issues raised.
- Endorse supporting documentation such as NDE reports and weld schedules.
- Advise on Quality Control & Inspection aspects, including risks and issues.
- Close out and report product quality nonconformances/issues.
Key Skills:
- SC clearance or eligibility for SC clearance.
- HND/Degree in Engineering or equivalent STEM discipline.
- CQI membership/designation.
- Lead Auditor certification (e.g., IRCA ISO 9001 Lead Auditor).
- Experience in defense projects (DefStan) desirable.
- 5-10 years of quality management experience in regulated environments.
- Proven leadership in managing non-conformances and conducting Root Cause Analysis.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement tools (Six Sigma, 8D, etc.).
- Strong technical report writing skills and QMS process establishment.

Our client, a successful engineering services organisation employing 60,000+ individuals globally, is looking for a Quality Manager contractor for a min 12-month contract (rolling)
Quality Manager remit includes:
- Ensures that complex defence projects meet stringent regulatory and contractual standards.
- Drive a "Right First Time" culture to prevent defects and reduce the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with both internal and external Customers
- Interface with a multi-disciplined team consisting of multiple Contractors and team members
- Partner with customers to understand their requirements/expectations for quality assurance, quality control and inspection.
- Acts as a key Quality focal point for all matters relating to Quality Management, Resources and Quality personnel allocated to the project
- Ensure manufacturers quality arrangements are reviewed and approved / accepted in accordance with project requirements.
- Review of QC Inspection reports, understand and act on issues raised where appropriate
- Review and endorsement of supporting documentation e.g. NDE reports, weld schedules, EC&I test documentation, ongoing and final review of LTQR packages.
- Advise on all aspects of Quality Control & Inspection on projects, including risks and issues.
- Close out and reporting any product quality nonconformances / issues.
Quality Manager profile:
- In possession of SC clearance OR Eligible to undergo the vetting process for SC (Security Check) clearance (need to meet strict UK nationality and residency requirements to obtain security clearance)
- HND / Degree in Engineering or other equivalent discipline or an equivalent time-served apprenticeship in a STEM discipline.
- CQI (Chartered Quality Institute) membership/designation
- Lead Auditor certification (e.g., IRCA ISO 9001 Lead Auditor)
- Knowledge of working on defence projects desirable (DefStan)
- Min 5-10 years of quality management experience within nuclear, defense, heavy engineering, shipbuilding, or similar highly regulated, safety-critical environments.
- Proven track record in a leadership or senior quality role, with demonstrated ability in managing non-conformances, conducting Root Cause Analysis, and deploying Continuous Improvement tools (Six Sigma, 8D, etc.)
- Strong ability to produce high-quality technical reports and establish Quality Management System (QMS) processes.
