Summary: The role of Freelance QA/QC Coating Inspector involves ensuring the quality and integrity of protective coating systems for offshore wind projects starting in early January. The inspector will conduct thorough inspections, monitor application methods, and ensure compliance with international standards and project specifications. This position is crucial for preventing corrosion and maintaining long-term performance of coatings. Strong communication and reporting skills are essential for liaising with various stakeholders and addressing quality issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out visual and detailed inspections of coated surfaces to confirm quality and compliance.
- Inspect and verify surface preparation activities, including cleaning, abrasive blasting, and contaminant removal, in line with approved specifications and manufacturer requirements.
- Monitor coating application methods (spray, brush, roller) to ensure compliance with approved procedures.
- Measure and record coating parameters using inspection equipment such as WFT and DFT gauges, adhesion testers, profile gauges, and holiday detectors.
- Verify environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and dew point, before and during coating application.
- Confirm suitability and compliance of coating materials, including primers, paints, and consumables.
- Review material certification and ensure correct storage and handling of materials.
- Identify coating defects, holidays, and non-conformances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor repair works and perform re-inspections as required.
- Conduct project-specified coating tests, including adhesion, humidity, and salt spray testing where applicable.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, test results, and photographic documentation.
- Prepare clear and detailed inspection reports outlining compliance and non-compliance.
- Liaise effectively with site management, coating applicators, subcontractors, and client representatives to resolve quality issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance coating quality and durability.
Key Skills:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a QA/QC Coating Inspector.
- NACE Level 3 / FROSIO Level 3 / ICorr Level 3 certification (essential).
- Strong knowledge of relevant international standards, including SSPC, NACE, ISO, and project-specific requirements.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
