Summary: The QA QC Engineer (Nights) role requires an experienced professional with a CSWIP certification and over 5 years of QAQC experience, specifically in the inspection of industrial boilers and pressure vessels. The position involves conducting inspections and quality surveillance activities during the manufacturing, installation, and repair of pressure parts, ensuring compliance with project specifications and applicable standards. The role is based in Wakefield and requires full availability for a month-long contract starting April 9th.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections of boiler pressure parts including membrane walls, superheaters, economisers, headers, drums, and associated pipework.
- Carry out manufacturing surveillance at vendor workshops, monitoring fabrication activities against ITPs and project requirements.
- Verify welding activities including fit-up, welding parameters, weld mapping, and compliance with approved WPS/PQRs.
- Confirm welder qualifications and ensure consumables and welding processes meet specification requirements.
- Witness and review NDE activities (UT, RT, MT, PT) and confirm acceptance to relevant standards.
- Verify material traceability including heat numbers, MTRs, and PMI requirements where applicable.
- Witness pressure testing/hydrostatic testing and ensure test preparation and documentation is completed correctly.
- Record inspection results, produce reports, and support compilation of QA/QC documentation and turnover packs.
- Raise quality concerns and NCRs, supporting corrective action implementation and close-out.
- Liaise with contractors, site supervision, and client representatives to ensure quality expectations are met.
Key Skills:
- Minimum 5+ years QA/QC inspection experience in boilers, piping, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of pressure part manufacturing and installation practices.
- Ability to interpret drawings, isometrics, weld maps, and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of applicable standards such as ASME Section I, ASME B31.1/B31.3, EN 12952, or equivalent.
- Strong reporting skills and attention to detail.
- Certifications (Preferred): CSWIP 3.1, AWS CWI, or equivalent.
- NDT Level II (UT/MT/PT/RT) advantageous.
- API 510 / 570 desirable.
- Confined Space, Face Fit Testing, IOSH Working Safely/ Safety Passport.
