Summary: The role of Automation & Observability Engineer based in Glasgow involves driving automation initiatives and developing observability solutions aligned with the firm's data protection strategy. Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive automation initiatives and develop observability and alerting solutions.
  • Work closely with internal teams to identify opportunities for improving data protection platform reliability.
  • Resolve underlying issues through automation and enhance observability and alerting.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to understand challenges and deliver effective solutions.

Key Skills:

  • Strong ability to interpret and refine ambiguous requirements.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python; familiarity with Perl and/or PowerShell is a plus.
  • Solid experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins).
  • Strong knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Cortex.
  • Significant hands-on experience with Ansible.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs.
  • Excellent debugging skills, including troubleshooting complex issues beyond standard documentation.

Salary (Rate): £58.00/hr

Location: Glasgow – 2–3 days per week onsite

Duration: 12 months

Rate: £465 per day (Inside IR35)

My client is searching for an Automation & Observability Engineer to help drive automation initiatives and develop observability and alerting solutions aligned with the Firm’s data protection strategy. In this role, you will work closely with internal teams to identify opportunities to improve the reliability of the data protection platform. Improvements may involve resolving underlying issues through automation, enhancing observability and alerting to speed up service recovery, or a combination of both. You will collaborate with the operations team to understand their challenges and deliver effective solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience across modern automation and observability technologies, while also being comfortable working with legacy systems when needed. You must be able to interpret ambiguous requirements, advise stakeholders, and clearly communicate complex technical concepts. Experience with backup or storage technologies is beneficial but not essential.
