Protection and Control Engineer- Distribution
Summary: The Protection and Control Engineer role focuses on delivering detailed protection and control designs for transmission and distribution projects, specifically within the 33kV-132kV range. The position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with industry standards while mentoring junior engineers. The role also involves producing technical documentation and participating in client meetings to represent engineering inputs effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivery of detailed protection and control design for transmission and distribution projects (33kV-132kV)
- Production of protection schematics, single line diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation
- Review and interpretation of client requirements to develop appropriate engineering solutions
- Attendance at client and project meetings, representing engineering input clearly and professionally
- Coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external stakeholders including DNO/DSOs
- Support project delivery from early-stage design through to completion
- Contribution to technical reports, design reviews, and engineering assurance processes
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers where required
- Ensuring compliance with relevant UK, European, and industry standards
Key Skills:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Protection & Control
- Proven experience delivering protection design within UK transmission and distribution projects
- Strong understanding of high-voltage systems (33kV-132kV)
- Experience producing detailed protection design documentation and technical deliverables
- Working knowledge of CDM regulations and associated design risk responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple project demands
