PROPERTY SOLICITOR

We are seeking an experienced Property Solicitor to provide high-quality legal advice, representation and support, advising Members and colleagues on a wide range of property and local government matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist legal advice, representation and assistance to Members and Council officers.
  • Manage an ongoing legal caseload, prioritising matters effectively and meeting deadlines.
  • Advise on a broad range of property matters, including acquisitions, disposals, licences and Landlord and Tenant matters.
  • Advise on the structuring of property deals.
  • Negotiate and complete property transactions on behalf of the Client.
  • Assist with matters relating to Assets of Community Value, best value disposals and Subsidy Control.
  • Represent the Client in legal proceedings and undertake advocacy where required.
  • Attend statutory meetings, Committees and public meetings as required.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, case law, guidance and best practice.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective Legal Service and the Client’s Corporate Plan.

Essential Requirements

  • Fully qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive, or equivalent relevant professional qualification.
  • Experience working within a legal team or practice.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience within property law.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to scrutinise and interpret new legislation.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and manage a caseload within agreed deadlines.
  • High professional standards and commitment to continuing professional development.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working within a local government legal team.
  • Knowledge of the local government statutory and constitutional framework.
  • Additional attendance may be required for Committees, statutory meetings and public meetings.
