Senior Project Manager - Payments
Initial 3-Month Contract | Up to £500 per day | Inside IR35
Hybrid - 1 day per week onsite in Swindon or London
I'm currently supporting a leading financial services organisation seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join them on an initial three-month contract.
We're looking for a customer-focused Project Manager with a strong banking and payments background. You'll have proven experience delivering complex technology or engineering programmes, working directly with customers, and confidently engaging senior stakeholders and executive leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of complex payments and engineering projects across multiple workstreams
- Act as a key customer-facing contact, building strong relationships and managing expectations throughout the project lifecycle
- Coordinate delivery across multiple technical teams, customers, third parties, and incremental releases
- Create and maintain detailed delivery plans, progress reports, budgets, and project governance
- Manage risks, issues, dependencies, timelines, resources, and competing priorities
- Work closely with engineering teams to define clear milestones, requirements, and deliverables
- Ensure features and payment solutions are successfully delivered into production
- Provide clear and regular reporting to customers, engineering leadership, senior management, and executive stakeholders
- Support smooth production releases and effective transition into operational teams
- Proactively address delivery challenges while maintaining a positive customer experience
Essential experience
- Proven experience as a Senior Project Manager within banking, payments, or financial services
- Strong understanding of the payments landscape and experience delivering payments-related technology projects
- Demonstrable experience in a customer-facing Project Manager role
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including experience engaging customers, senior leadership, and executive-level stakeholders
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale technology or engineering projects involving multiple teams and workstreams
- Strong experience managing project risks, dependencies, budgets, resources, and governance
- Previous people management or team leadership experience
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear updates for both technical and non-technical audiences
