Summary: The Project Manager will support the Wessex Route Safety, Health and Environment team by coordinating and delivering five major conference events and assisting with the rollout of a Safety Critical Communications training programme. The role requires strong stakeholder engagement and project delivery skills, particularly within the rail industry. The postholder will also contribute to various health, safety, and environment projects as directed by the Programme Manager. This position is based in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of five major conference events.
  • Booking venues through Network Rail systems.
  • Coordinating invitations and tracking attendance.
  • Liaising with roster teams.
  • Collaborating with Route Exec to finalise agendas and delivery formats.
  • Supporting event delivery on-site.
  • Coordinating with internal roster teams and external training providers for the Safety Critical Communications training programme.
  • Scheduling and tracking participation in training sessions.
  • Ensuring smooth delivery across multiple teams.
  • Contributing to other projects in health, safety, and environment as allocated by the Programme Manager.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in project delivery, governance, and risk control frameworks.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and coordination skills.
  • Rail industry experience is essential.
  • Familiarity with Network Rail systems, structure, and health & safety policies is highly desirable.
  • Experience in event planning and delivery is preferred.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.

We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager to join the existing team, the Project Manager will play a key role in supporting the Wessex Route Safety, Health and Environment team.

The primary focus will be assisting in the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of five major conference events (approx. 200 attendees each) between October and February, held at external venues. This includes:

  • Booking venues through Network Rail systems
  • Coordinating invitations and tracking attendance
  • Liaising with roster teams
  • Collaborating with Route Exec to finalise agendas and delivery formats
  • Supporting event delivery on-site

In addition, the role will support the year-long rollout of the Safety Critical Communications training programme across Operations and Maintenance teams. This will involve:

  • Coordinating with internal roster teams and external training providers
  • Scheduling and tracking participation
  • Ensuring smooth delivery across multiple teams

The postholder will also contribute to other projects in the areas of health, safety, and environment, as allocated by the Programme Manager.
