Project Manager - Battery Energy Storage

Rate: £750 - 800 per day, inside IR35
Turner Lovell are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of a major National Grid substation and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) project for a leading infrastructure contractor.
The successful candidate will have proven experience delivering National Grid substation projects, with a strong understanding of National Grid SRs, Rules, and EPC/M&E frameworks.
You will lead the successful delivery of a high-profile transmission infrastructure project, managing cross-functional teams and maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
This role requires exceptional leadership, commercial awareness, and stakeholder management skills, alongside a proven track record of delivering Design & Build projects safely, on programme, and within budget.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of a major National Grid substation and BESS Design & Build project through construction to completion.
- Manage cross-functional project teams across engineering, construction, commercial, procurement, and subcontractor functions.
- Ensure project delivery aligns with National Grid requirements, SRs, Rules, and applicable EPC/M&E frameworks.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain project programmes, ensuring key milestones and deliverables are achieved.
- Manage project budgets, costs, forecasting, and commercial performance to ensure delivery to time and cost targets.
- Administer projects under NEC contracts, including compensation events, change control, and commercial reporting.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks while maximising opportunities throughout delivery.
- Ensure robust project governance, reporting, and performance monitoring.
- Maintain the highest standards of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality compliance.
- Ensure compliance with HSWA, CDM, EAWR, and other relevant UK regulations.
- Coordinate design, procurement, construction, M&E installation, and commissioning activities.
- Produce regular programme, financial, and risk reports for senior management and the client.
- Utilise project management software to monitor programme, resources, costs, and project performance.
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of National Grid SRs, Rules, and EPC/M&E frameworks.
- Demonstrated leadership experience delivering Design & Build projects with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Relevant qualification in Construction, Engineering, or Project Management, and/or significant industry experience.
- Strong commercial experience managing NEC contracts.
- Proven ability to manage project risk and opportunity.
- Strong knowledge of HSWA, CDM, EAWR, and other UK construction regulations.
- Experience managing significant project budgets with a proven history of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Experience using project management and planning software.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
