Summary: The Project Engineering Manager (Rolling Stock) will oversee the rollout of the European Train Control System (ETCS) to the UK Freight Fleet, focusing on various locomotives throughout different project lifecycle stages. This role requires extensive knowledge of train systems and a proven track record in delivering installation projects related to rail vehicle modifications. The position is based in Derby with a flexible working arrangement that includes travel within the Midlands. The contract runs from August 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the rollout of ETCS to the UK Freight Fleet on various locomotives.
- Manage projects covering design, installation, production, and testing of train systems.
- Deliver installation projects associated with modifications to rail vehicles.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and ensure compliance with project timelines and specifications.
Key Skills:
- In-depth practical knowledge of train systems such as ETCS, TPWS, AWS, GSM-R, Wi-Fi, CCTV, and DAS.
- Experience in design and installation of train systems.
- Proven track record of delivering installation projects for rail vehicles.
- Strong project management and communication skills.

You will be working as part of a Freight ETCS project, helping to support the rollout of ETCS to the UK Freight Fleet on a number of UK locomotives. The project covers locomotives in different stages of the project lifecycle including design, first in class installation, fleet production and type testing.
It is Essential that you have in depth practical knowledge and experience of design and installation of train systems, typically ETCS, TPWS, AWS, GSM-R, Wi-Fi, CCTV and DAS and have a track record of delivering installation projects associated with modifications to rail vehicles.
