Summary: The Project Engineer will be engaged on an 8-week contract with a leading sugar producer at their Newark site. This role involves overseeing the removal and installation of heat exchangers while ensuring compliance with safety and engineering standards. The position offers an hourly rate of up to £40, classified as outside IR35. The engineer will also manage contractor activities and provide on-site engineering support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee on-site activities for the removal of 7 existing heat exchangers and installation of 4 new units, ensuring works are delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Supervise contractors and coordinate daily construction activities on a busy industrial site with up to 16-17 personnel.
  • Support and monitor major crane and lifting operations in line with lifting plans and LOLER requirements.
  • Assist with contractor management and contract administration to ensure work is completed in line with project scope and schedule.
  • Provide practical on-site engineering support, resolving routine mechanical or installation queries to avoid project delays.
  • Coordinate associated mechanical works including pipework modifications, installation and final finishing activities.
  • Ensure strong compliance with QHSE standards, construction regulations and site safety procedures.
  • Maintain clear communication with a multicultural contractor workforce, adapting approach where language barriers may exist.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in overseeing industrial construction projects, particularly in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong supervisory skills with the ability to manage contractor teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of crane and lifting operations, including LOLER compliance.
  • Ability to provide practical engineering support and resolve mechanical issues on-site.
  • Familiarity with QHSE standards and construction regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in multicultural environments.

The Project Engineer role comes with an hourly rate of up to £40p/hour, outside IR35
