Summary: The Project Designer role at United Utilities involves designing Water Network projects, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. The position is hybrid, requiring both office presence in Warrington and remote work. The designer will collaborate with construction partners and manage project transitions from design to construction. This contract position is focused on delivering approximately 400 designs annually for various water-related projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design development of Internal Diversions, PMV/Meter, MMI’s, Pumping Stations, Mains Renewal, Air Valve Replacement, and Reservoir projects.
- Maintain and update the Water Network Design Sharepoint Site and JIRA.
- Liaise with Construction Partners to identify and resolve potential construction issues.
- Ensure smooth transition from design to construction.
- Maintain and implement changes to policy, systems, procedures, and technical developments.
- Fulfill Designer’s duties under the CDM Regulations 2015, where applicable.
- Assist the Design Manager in promoting business initiatives and objectives.
- Ensure projects meet company design standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical advice and support for project designs and site requirements.
- Facilitate pre-design meetings in accordance with the 'Non-Core Process’.
- Support and guide team members and attend pre-construction meetings as required.
- Work closely with Performance Engineers during construction phases to manage design changes.
- Collaborate with the UU Commercial team to identify cost-effective pipeline replacement techniques.
- Produce a PCI document in accordance with CDM 2015 requirements.

- Understanding of company relationships with Regulators.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels.
- Experience in communications with internal customers and Construction Partners.
- Democratic and flexible approach to design process change.
- High level of competence in interpersonal, influencing, and presentation skills.
- Thorough understanding of Water Networks.
- Competent in producing Auto-Cad drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Driving License essential.
