Summary: THAA Architects is seeking an experienced Project Architect / Architectural Technologist to produce detailed technical drawings and specifications for residential projects, with a strong emphasis on RIBA Stage 4 and Stage 5 experience. The ideal candidate will have a robust portfolio, a deep understanding of UK Building Regulations, and the ability to manage various project stages. This role offers flexibility in working arrangements and is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. Candidates should be prepared to engage in both technical design and client interactions while contributing to sustainable architectural solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce high-quality construction drawings, schedules, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations and industry standards.
  • Coordinate and liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, manufacturers, contractors and all statutory bodies.
  • Resolve technical design issues and provide buildable solutions.
  • Assist clients with tendering, overseeing contracts and site administration duties.
  • Attend site meetings and provide technical support during construction.
  • Overseeing the planning process post planning approval i.e. discharge of conditions.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified Architect (ARB) or Architectural Technologist (CIAT).
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in detailed residential design.
  • Must be able to demonstrate live project running experience on site.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, NHBC standards, LABC and construction detailing.
  • Strong knowledge of Health and Safety and ideally experience as a Principal Designer.
  • A key eye for detail, ideally with experience working in high end architectural practices.
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
  • Experience in collaborating with clients, consultants, suppliers, manufacturers, contractors and all statutory bodies.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills for client interface.
  • Experience with Passivhaus (PHPP software) / sustainable design principles (desirable).
  • Knowledge of modern methods of construction (MMC) (desirable).

Role Description
THAA Architects are seeking an experienced Project Architect / Architectural Technologist to produce detailed technical drawings and specifications for RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design) with RIBA Stage 5 (Construction) experience on residential projects being essential, and experience in other sectors beneficial. The ideal candidate will have a portfolio of completed projects which they have contributed to substantially. A strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, construction detailing, material specifications, contract administration and overseeing site works, must be demonstrated in your application and portfolio. The ideal candidate will also be able to handle RIBA Stages 0-3 when required. If you have a desire to create award winning projects and an ambition to grow professionally as part of a successful architectural practice, we are open to part-time or full-time candidates who are based in the North-East of England.
