Job Role:
As a Product Safety Engineer, you will be working across a range of UK Munitions programmes and products. You will be required to support and provide safety assurance advice to the projects Technical Authorities including the generation of safety and risk analysis deliverables for both new and existing products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with the Product Safety and Environment Management Framework, business policies, procedures and associated management plans.
Provide support and advice to the Design Organisation on matters relating to product safety for projects and bids. This will include, but is not limited to:
- Tailoring of product safety management plans.
- Working with customers to ensure products meet safety, environmental and security requirement levels.
- Undertaking safety evaluation of engineering designs.
- Undertaking a range of techniques for conducting Hazard Identification, Analysis and Risk Assessment, for example FMEAs, FTAs.
- Writing in-depth Safety and Environmental Case Reports (SECRs)., including plans and appraisals.
- Compilation of evaluation and test evidence to support production of a Safety and Environmental Case (SEC).
- Creating and maintaining product Hazard Logs.
- Attending and contributing in customer Product Safety and Environmental Panels (PSEP s).
- Contributing to the business requirement to deliver conforming product.
Lead or support reviews with the stakeholder community as appropriate. This will include, but is not limited to:

Key Skills and Experience:
- Deriving and setting safety criteria and requirements using UK MOD defence standards, in particular Def Stan 00-056 and DSA 03.OME (formerly JSP 520).
- Applying safety management processes within Systems Engineering Lifecycles, such as the CADMID cycle and the Systems Vee model.
- Applying a range of techniques in conducting Hazard Identification, Analysis and Risk Assessment.
- Producing robust and compelling ALARP and safety arguments.
- The production and management of Hazard Logs.
- An understanding of safety aspects and completion of assessments for compliance against various UK and other legislation.
- A proven track record of producing robust technical engineering reports.
- Ability to work as part of a project team and autonomously when required.
- A proactive and enthusiastic approach to your work, with excellent attention to detail.
- Analytical and be able to structure reasoned arguments.
- Methodical with good problem solving skills.
- A strong communicator at all levels with the ability to confidently articulate technical safety information to a variety of stakeholders.
- An ability to make sound, informed judgements and the integrity to challenge when necessary.
