Role
We're looking for an experienced Product Owner to take a leading role in a major AI-enabled transformation programme within the insurance sector.
This is an opportunity to work on a genuinely ambitious piece of product transformation: rethinking how complex underwriting and pricing processes operate by embedding AI and intelligent automation into the workflow.
Rather than stepping into a mature product environment with an established backlog and predefined ways of working, you'll have the autonomy to shape the Product Owner function itself, working closely with business stakeholders and engineering teams to turn complex operational challenges into a product that people genuinely want to use.
You'll sit at the intersection of the business, underwriting teams and technology, taking ownership of the product direction and helping translate real-world underwriting challenges into an effective AI-enabled solution.
A major part of the role will be stakeholder engagement. You'll work directly with experienced insurance professionals, understanding their processes, challenging existing ways of working where appropriate and building the trust required to drive adoption of new technology.
You'll also work closely with engineering and delivery teams, ensuring business requirements are translated into clear product priorities and that what is being developed solves the right problems.
The environment is fast-moving and relatively greenfield, so we're looking for somebody comfortable operating with ambiguity rather than simply managing an established backlog.
What you'll be doing
- Taking ownership of the Product Owner function across a major AI-enabled insurance transformation
- Working directly with underwriters and business stakeholders to understand complex workflows, pain points and requirements
- Defining product priorities, requirements and the roadmap alongside business and technology stakeholders
- Helping shape AI-enabled workflows that automate elements of data extraction, analysis and pricing preparation
- Acting as the bridge between insurance SMEs and engineering teams
- Building strong relationships with operational stakeholders and securing engagement with new ways of working
- Bringing structure and product discipline to an evolving, high-profile programme
- Challenging assumptions and ensuring technology is solving meaningful business problems rather than simply introducing AI for its own sake
- Helping take an early-stage AI proposition towards a scalable, production-ready product
What we're looking for
Insurance experience is key. You don't need to be the most technical AI Product Owner in the market, but you do need to understand how to operate effectively within an insurance environment and build credibility with experienced insurance stakeholders.
- Strong Product Owner/Product Management experience within insurance
- Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
- Experience working directly with underwriting, pricing or other complex insurance operations
- The confidence to engage senior stakeholders and challenge established processes
- Experience translating business problems into clear product requirements for engineering teams
- A track record of operating autonomously within complex transformation programmes
- Comfort working in an environment where the product and operating model are still being defined
Experience delivering AI, GenAI, intelligent automation or data-led products would be highly advantageous, but deep AI engineering expertise isn't required.
This isn't a BAU Product Owner position.
You'll have the opportunity to help define how an AI product is built and adopted within a complex insurance environment, with significant autonomy over how the Product Owner function operates.
