Summary: The Product Manager will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on a specific business area to define problems and develop user-centered digital solutions. This role involves collaborating with various teams to maintain a product strategy and ensure effective management and support of products throughout their lifecycle. The position requires a strong understanding of user needs, digital technologies, and the ability to build business cases that align with organizational goals. The Product Manager will also work closely with operational delivery teams to ensure successful product outcomes.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

  • As a product manager, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and supporting a specific business area
  • For this business area you will work with the wider business team to help define their problems to ensure we develop solutions that meet the business needs and those of our users.
  • You would work with the business team to produce and maintain a product strategy, ensuring that the stage in the product lifecycle is taken into consideration when planning the appropriate interventions, and directing which tools or methods will best suit the circumstance to ensure the product keeps meeting the needs of the service.
  • In your role you would be expected to work with operational delivery teams in digital, data and technology to ensure that the ongoing management and support of products are effectively planned for.

Key skills, knowledge and experience

  • You have experience of working as a product manager delivering user centred digital services/products, through which you have gained skills in product ownership and the ability to contextualise problems and their potential solutions within the wider needs of the organisation.
  • You know how to apply tools and concepts in a variety of ways and adapt to change, using new ways of working where appropriate. This allows you to identify and compare processes or delivery methods to use, to help the team to decide on the best approach.
  • You have experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams including professions within data and analytics teams to deliver business data solutions.
  • You have experience of collaborating with user researchers and understand the importance of user research in identifying and prioritising the needs to be met, and you understand the variety and complexity of users' digital needs and how products can meet these.
  • You can build business cases based on user needs that enable decisions to be made on a commercial basis, ensuring the correct solutions are chosen that can be delivered within the constraints we have. By linking activity back to the business case, you ensure agreed outcomes are achieved producing the expected value for the organisation.
  • You understand new and emerging digital technologies and the opportunities they provide to improve the delivery of public services in the UK and have an awareness of Government Digital standards and how these enable us to build better services.
  • You understand the product life cycle and how to design operational processes for the running and maintenance of products or services throughout their product life cycle
  • You have the ability to understand the perspectives of others in order to be able to bring a wide range of views to inform solutions
