Summary: The Product Manager at Mitchells & Butlers will lead the vision and strategy for a specific Digital value stream, driving the development of a feature roadmap and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve business goals. This role requires a creative and innovative individual who can manage digital transformation initiatives within a retail or e-commerce environment. The position is based in Birmingham and offers a fixed-term contract for 12 months. Key Responsibilities:
- Own the success of the roadmap and measurement of key KPIs such as sales and profit, conversion, engagement, and spend.
- Identify market trends to enhance the value stream and commercial success.
- Lead stakeholder sessions and create business discovery documents outlining goals, KPIs, and epics for each feature.
- Engage with UX agencies to develop guest journeys and wireframes.
- Work with business change to validate hypotheses and execute successful pilots.
- Collaborate with reporting analysts to ensure data and dashboards are available for tracking feature success.
- Manage the sprint team to deliver on development plans and participate in scrum ceremonies.
- Support senior product managers in digital strategy and third-party integrations.
- Work with marketing teams to optimize customer lifecycle marketing strategies.
Key Skills:
- Strong track record in managing digital transformation in a retail/e-commerce environment.
- Experience as a product owner/product manager with knowledge of agile development principles.
- Proficient in writing detailed epics and stories.
- Strong stakeholder management and presentation skills.
- Highly analytical and detail-focused with experience in test and learn methodologies.
- Understanding of GDPR and data management.
- Knowledge of core UX/UI principles and customer journey design.
- Familiarity with technologies such as Data Lake, ChatGPT/CoPilot, and Campaign Management tools.
- Some knowledge of AI & Machine Learning principles in e-commerce.
- Experience with Office 365 suite, AHA, JIRA, Azure Dev Ops, Dynatrace, GA4, and Figma.
- Relevant digital, management, or technical degree; Product Manager accreditation preferred.

In your role as Product Manager, you will own the vision and strategy for one specified Digital value stream, Lead the definition of a feature roadmap that facilitates the achievement of the specified value stream goals, alongside owning a development and dependency plan to deliver the roadmap in collaboration with key partners (e.g., technology, marketing, data, legal, and product). The Opportunity – Product Manager Own the success of the roadmap and measurement of key KPIs e.g. sales and profit, conversion, engagement, spend. Identify trends in the market which can feed into the value stream and uplift commercial success. Lead stakeholder sessions and create business discovery documents that outline the goals, KPIs, epics to achieve each feature. Engage with the UX agency to formulate guest journeys and wireframes that visualize the feature. Work with business change to validate hypothesis with brands, identify pain points, and take a pro-active role in setting up and executing a successful pilot. Work with the reporting analyst and associated data reporting teams to ensure data, reports and dashboards are available for feature success tracking. Management of sprint team in place to deliver on the development plans. Participating in regular scrum ceremonies (acting as the business driver behind initiatives and ensuring delivery milestones are agreed and on track) Supporting with blockers, risks and issues. Tracking progress of sprint team against milestone plans. Working closely with senior product managers to collaborate on digital strategy, vision and digital team organisation. Supporting in the engagement with relevant third party integration and SaaS providers, including relationship building, documentation and solution exchange, contracts / legals, planning and delivery. Supporting senior product managers with internal and external legal teams, sourcing information for contract discussions, work order definitions, and ensuring compliance with regulations such as GDPR. Working with Brand and Central marketing teams to optimise M&B’s customer lifecycle marketing strategy (targeting increases in conversion, engagement, retention, LTV, and improvements in SEO and UI design) across existing and new channels.
What you’ll need to bring to the Product Manager role: A strong track record of having managed digital transformation within a retail / e-commerce environment (multi-brand experience preferred) and experience of working within a cross-functional / collaborative environment. Experience of working as a product owner / product manager (an understanding of agile development principles and methodologies). Deep experience in writing detailed epics and stories. Strong stakeholder management & presentation skills. Highly analytical, detail focused - with experience of test and learn methodologies. An understanding of GDPR and data management. Understanding of core UX/UI principles and good customer journey design. An appreciation of advancing technologies such as Data Lake, ChatGPT/CoPilot, and Campaign Management / Recommendation Engine Tooling. Some knowledge of AI & Machine Learning Principals and how these can be used within an ecommerce environment i.e., in journey messaging capabilities, Personalisation, and Next Best Actions. Tooling experience with Office 365 suite, AHA, JIRA, Azure Dev Ops, Dynatrace, GA4 and Figma.
