Summary: An exciting opportunity for a seasoned Product Controller has arisen at a leading financial markets and commodities bank in London. The role focuses on maintaining the integrity of financial statements through P&L production, balance sheet reconciliation, and price testing of trading inventory. The successful candidate will engage in both daily reporting and project-based initiatives, contributing to the overall financial accuracy and risk management of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production of daily profit and loss (P&L) accounts from trading activity.
  • Validation of P&L against attribution received from Trading or Risk systems.
  • Understanding drivers of P&L based on knowledge of risk exposure and market movements.
  • Providing daily commentary on P&L once relevant thresholds have been exceeded.
  • Ensuring completeness, accuracy, and integrity of the Bank’s accounting ledger via reconciliations, posting ledger entries, and attestation.
  • Identifying and flagging any issues encountered before they become major issues, suggesting ways to remedy where feasible.
  • Preparation and development of Management Information (MI).
  • Involvement in project-based components such as implementation of new systems or processes.

Key Skills:

  • Several years' experience in a P&L Production role at an Investment Bank, Hedge Fund, or Trading House.
  • Knowledge of various asset classes including FX, Rates & Credit, Commodities, Base Metals, Precious Metals, and Energy (Oil & Gas).
  • Hands-on P&L Production experience.
  • Good understanding of Balance sheet substantiation and Market Risk concepts (e.g., VAR and backtesting).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel & VBA required.
  • Experience in Murex & SAP preferred but not essential.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to perform root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in regulated environments with understanding of risk and compliance.
