Summary: The Procurement Engineer role at ASMPT involves representing the Source Department within the R&D environment, focusing on optimizing costs and providing sustainable sourcing solutions for various projects. The position requires collaboration with engineering teams and suppliers to ensure accurate manufacturing costs and timely delivery of materials throughout the product lifecycle. The role is based in Weymouth and offers a dynamic working environment with opportunities for professional growth. This is a 6-month fixed-term contract position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interface with Engineering, Supplier Quality, Commodity Managers, and vendors to optimize costs and provide sustainable sourcing solutions.
- Work with project teams to provide knowledge of material cost data and suitable suppliers from idea creation to volume production.
- Measure and report total manufacturing costs throughout the Product Lifecycle Management process.
- Manage the purchase and delivery of materials to support project timelines at various phases.
- Develop a quality plan with Supplier Quality for Prototype and Pre-Series build stages.
- Steer sourcing of projects through Prototype and Pre-Series stages by developing BoMs and providing necessary documentation.
- Manage procurement activities including vendor selection, negotiations, and price calculations.
- Work with Engineers and Commodity Managers to manage and mitigate supply chain risks.
Key Skills:
- Qualification in a business/commercial discipline and/or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience in managing supplier relationships in an engineering business, ideally in a New Product Introduction (NPI) environment.
- Technical knowledge and commercial experience for costing and sourcing.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and agile environment and contribute to project management.
- Leadership qualities to influence internal decisions and empower suppliers.
- Understanding of value vs costs in product design across multiple material categories.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications and understand design intent.
- Experience with ERP systems (ideally SAP) and PLM systems (ideally Teamcenter).
