Summary: The Procurement Contract Manager will oversee procurement activities for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship build programme, focusing on cost management, supplier relationships, and stakeholder engagement. The role requires leading a team to ensure timely resolution of supply issues while maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders. The position demands a strong financial background and extensive procurement experience, with a commitment to continuous improvement and cost reduction. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic environment, contributing to the success of complex shipbuilding projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Procurement expertise and deliver a range of activities in support of ship build systems, equipment, parts, raw material and consumables
- Lead on cost by actively pursuing cost reduction or cost avoidance activities, benchmarking submitted costs to ensure value for money
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships, manage supplier performance and improvement activities
- Lead the timely identification, analysis and resolution of internal and external issues affecting material supply
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Undertake regular reviews of Engineering BoMs to ensure all change is captured and processed
- Regularly review stock levels against consumption to maintain appropriate min-max levels
- Effectively delegate workload across the team and support less experienced members
Key Skills:
- Experience in Contract management with a strong financial background in managing cost to budget, including forecasting
- Managing a team with the ability to challenge while providing support
- Strong stakeholder management experience with negotiation and influencing skills
- Extensive Procurement experience, MCIPS qualified or working towards MCIPS
- Comfortable with occasional international travel
- Experience of project management and project control processes and tools (desirable)
- Awareness of legal environment related to purchasing contracts and framework agreements (desirable)
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and toolsets, Advanced Excel preferred (desirable)
