Summary: The Procurement Contract Manager will oversee procurement activities related to shipbuilding systems and materials, focusing on cost management and supplier performance. This role requires strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to lead a team while ensuring timely resolution of supply issues. The position is integral to the Type 26 Global Combat Ship build programme, demanding collaboration with various teams and stakeholders. The successful candidate will contribute to cost reduction initiatives and maintain effective supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Procurement expertise and deliver a range of activities in support of ship build systems, equipment, parts, raw material and consumables
- Lead on cost by actively pursuing cost reduction or cost avoidance activities, benchmarking submitted costs to ensure value for money, and recording and reporting cost savings/cost avoidance
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships, manage Supplier performance and improvement activities, including proactive risk and opportunity management
- Lead the timely identification, analysis and resolution of internal and external issues affecting material supply
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Undertake regular reviews of Engineering BoMs to ensure all changes are captured and processed
- Regularly review stock levels against consumption to maintain appropriate min-max levels
- Effectively delegate workload across the team and support less experienced members
Key Skills:
- Experience in Contract management with a strong financial background in managing cost to budget, including forecasting
- Managing a team with the ability to challenge while providing support
- Strong stakeholder management experience with negotiation and influencing skills
- Extensive Procurement experience, MCIPS qualified or working towards MCIPS
- Comfortable with occasional international travel
- Experience of project management and project control processes and tools (desirable)
- Awareness of legal environment related to purchasing contracts and framework agreements (desirable)
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and toolsets, Advanced Excel preferred (desirable)
