Summary: The role of DSEAR Process Safety Consultant involves providing expert consultancy to clients in managing risks associated with potentially explosive atmospheres and hazardous materials. The consultant will conduct audits and risk assessments, develop safety management systems, and maintain client relationships across various industries. This position is suited for an experienced individual looking to supplement their existing workload with ongoing contract work. The role offers flexibility with site-based and remote work arrangements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct DSEAR audits and risk assessments, offering practical risk mitigation strategies.
- Work independently to deliver high-quality DSEAR / H&S Risk Assessments across a varied client base.
- Develop and support implementation of safety management systems.
- Provide technical advice and consulting to clients across industries including oil & gas, chemicals, and pharma.
- Keep up to date with industry regulations and best practices.
- Deliver exceptional client service and build long-term professional relationships.
- Manage client relationships; deal with queries and challenges effectively, offering expert advice and solutions.
Key Skills:
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related field.
- Membership in IchemE, CertIOSH, CMIOSH – or working towards this through active CPD.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in process safety, ideally within oil & gas, chemical, or pharma.
- Experience in leading and chairing studies such as HAZOP, Process Hazard Review (PHR), and Hazard Identification studies.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and standards around DSEAR & ATEX.
- Confident in developing process safety systems and offering expert consultancy.
- Full UK driving licence and use of a car.

DSEAR Process Safety Consultant – Midlands Circa £500 per day (outside IR35 & negotiable dependent on experience) + expenses + varied & interesting contract projects / work
We are looking to engage with a qualified DSEAR Process Safety Consultant on an ongoing contract basis to assist a variety of clients in managing their risks associated with potentially explosive atmospheres and hazardous materials. This will suit an individual with other clients, who is happy to add extra ongoing contract work to their portfolio with a view to the workload ramping up
DSEAR Process Safety Consultant remit:
- Conduct DSEAR audits and risk assessments, offering practical risk mitigation strategies
- Work independently to deliver high-quality DSEAR / H&S Risk Assessments across a varied client base.
- On average site-based 3 days a week / 2 days a week WFH (Report-writing)
- Develop and support implementation of safety management systems
- Provide technical advice and consulting to clients across industries to include oil & gas, chemicals, and pharma
- Keep up to date with industry regulations and best practice
- Deliver exceptional client service and build long-term professional relationships
- Client relationship management; deal with queries & challenges effectively and appropriately, offering expert advice and solutions
DSEAR Process Safety Consultant profile:
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related field
- A member of IchemE, CertIOSH, CMIOSH – or working towards this through active CPD
- Min 5 years’ experience in process safety, ideally within oil & gas, chemical, or pharma
- Demonstrated experience in leading and chairing studies such as HAZOP, Process Hazard Review (PHR), and Hazard Identification studies.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and standards around DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) & ATEX
- Confident developing process safety systems and offering expert consultancy
