Summary: The role of Process Engineer involves supporting capital projects within a leading chemical manufacturing company on a 6-month contract. The engineer will be responsible for defining project scopes, developing engineering deliverables, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative production processes and gain valuable experience in engineering and strategic project planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define the process scope of projects to ensure business objectives are met and stakeholders are aligned.
  • Develop process engineering deliverables such as heat and mass balance, P&ID’s, pressure drop calculations, process data sheets, and equipment sizing.
  • Develop process control philosophies and user requirement specifications to meet project objectives.
  • Lead the technical bid analysis considering proposals from various vendors.
  • Identify and mitigate process safety hazards complying with regulations and industry best practices.
  • Develop process commissioning plans and operator training procedures.

Key Skills:

  • MEng/BEng in Chemical Engineering.
  • Significant experience in developing process engineering design for capital projects.
  • Experience in modifying existing process plants in a chemicals manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of common process plant technologies and applicable engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and safety requirements in process plant design and operation.
  • Ability to apply process safety and engineering knowledge for safe and efficient design.
  • Experience supporting projects through commissioning and handover to operations.
  • Effective communication skills to work with other disciplines.

The Opportunity

Due to current project needs, an opportunity has become available for a proven and dedicated Process Engineer to support our client on a 6-month contract. In this role you will play a vital role in supporting capital projects and be at the forefront of innovation, whether it’s designing, scaling or optimising new production processes.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Define the process scope of projects to endure business objectives will be met and ensure stakeholders are aligned.
  • Develop process engineering deliverables to support the project such as heat and mass balance, P&ID’s, pressure drop calculations, process data sheets & equipment sizing.
  • Develop process control philosophies and user requirement specifications to meet project objectives.
  • Develop process data sheets for the procurement of equipment
  • Lead the technical bid analysis considering proposals from various vendors.
  • Identify and mitigate process safety hazards complying with regulations and considering industry best practice.
  • Develop process commissioning plans and operator training procedures.

You will have the following qualifications & experience

  • MEng/BEng in Chemical Engineering
  • Significant experience and knowledge of developing the process engineering design for capital projects involving the installation of new process plant equipment.
  • Experience of making modifications to existing process plant in a chemicals manufacturing environment.
  • A good understanding of common process plant technologies used in the chemicals industry and the applicable process engineering principles.
  • A good understanding of process engineering standards and best practice applicable to the design and operation of process plant.
  • A good understanding of the regulatory and safety requirements that need to be considered in the design and operation of a process plant.
  • A good understanding of process control principles and development of philosophies.
  • Ability to proficiently apply process safety and process engineering knowledge for safe and efficient design of plant modifications of new plant.
  • Experience of supporting a project through commissioning and handover to operations.
  • Able to communicate effectively and work with other disciplines within the organisation to deliver results.

It’s great if you also have the following

  • Previous experience working under COMAH regulations

The setting for the role

Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a chemical and manufacturing site. These can include, chemical burns, trips and falls, overexertion, cuts and scrapes, chemical exposure, inhalation of chemicals, confined spaces, heavy machinery and equipment, electrical hazards, machine guarding, sudden or loud noises, moving vehicles and working at height. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
